Children's Privacy Notice

Hagwow is built for students in Grades 1 to 12, so many of our learners are children. This notice is for parents and guardians. It explains how we handle children's information and the control you have over it. It works together with our Privacy Policy at hagwow.com/privacy.

A parent or guardian sets up the account

A Hagwow account is created by a parent or guardian, using the adult's email address. The learner's profile sits inside that account. By creating a learner profile, you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian and you consent to the collection and use of the child's information as described here.

Purchases and account settings sit behind a parental check in the app.

What we collect from a child

• A nickname (please do not use the child's full real name)
• Grade level, curriculum, and country
• Optional details a parent may add, such as birth year, city, or school
• The avatar the child builds
• Learning activity: lessons and games completed, answers, scores, time spent, and rewards earned
• Friends, clubs, blocks, and reports
• Device and technical information, such as device type, app version, IP address, crash reports, and usage events

We do not ask a child for a real name, home address, phone number, or photo.

What we do not do

• We do not sell children's information.
• We do not show personalised or behavioural ads to anyone on Hagwow.
• We do not let learners send free-text messages to each other.
• We do not store voice recordings.
• We do not receive videos made in Content Mode. They stay on the device.
• We do not require a child to give more information than is needed to use Hagwow.

How we use a child's information

• To teach: deliver lessons, save progress, and choose what comes next
• To show you, the parent or guardian, a report of your child's activity
• To run leaderboards, friends, clubs, and rewards using the nickname and avatar
• To keep Hagwow working, safe, and improving
• To carry out research on learning, with direct identifiers removed

Ads

Free accounts show ads from Google AdMob between activities. We request non-personalised ads only, and ad content is restricted to what is suitable for a general audience. Premium accounts have no ads.

Friends, clubs, and leaderboards

Other users can see a learner's nickname, avatar, country, XP, level, rank, streak, and badges. They cannot see the child's email, grade, city, school, or answers. Any learner can block or report another user. Nicknames and club names are filtered for inappropriate words, and we review reports.

Camera and microphone

• Spoken answers. In some games the child can say an answer aloud. The device's speech service, from Apple or Google, turns the audio into text. We receive only the text.
• Content Mode. A child can record a video of themselves playing a game. The video is created and stored on the device. It is shared only if someone chooses to share it from the device. We recommend parents decide with their child whether and where these videos are shared.

Both features are optional, and you can turn off camera and microphone access in your device settings at any time.

Who receives a child's information

Only the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy, and only so they can perform their service for us. They are not permitted to use children's information for their own purposes.

Your rights as a parent or guardian

You can at any time:

• Review your child's profile and activity in the app
• Correct your child's profile details
• Delete your child's profile and all information linked to it
• Withdraw consent and stop any further collection, by deleting the profile or your account
• Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about your child

You can do most of this in the app. For anything else, email privacy@hagwow.com from the email address on the account. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, to protect your child.

If a child signed up without a parent

If we learn that we have collected information from a child without a parent's or guardian's consent, we will delete it. If you believe this has happened, email privacy@hagwow.com.
