Privacy Policy

Hagwow is a learning app for students in Grades 1 to 12. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Hagwow app and the hagwow.com website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Hagwow is operated by Hagwow Inc., Mactan Newtown, Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines ("Hagwow", "we", "us").

The short version

• A parent or guardian creates the account. The learner uses a nickname, not a real name.
• We collect what we need to run the lessons, save progress, and keep the app working.
• We do not sell personal information.
• Ads appear only for free accounts, and they are non-personalised. Premium accounts have no ads.
• Videos made in Content Mode stay on your device. We never receive them.
• You can delete your account and data at any time, in the app or at hagwow.com/delete-account.

Information we collect

Account information (from the parent or guardian)

• Email address
• Sign-in details from Apple or Google, if you choose to sign in that way (name and email as provided by them)
• Your relationship to the learner (for example, parent or guardian)

Learner profile

• A nickname chosen for the learner
• Grade level and chosen curriculum
• Country
• Optional details you may add later, such as birth year, city, or school
• The avatar the learner builds in the app

We do not ask for a learner's real name, home address, or phone number.

Learning activity

• Lessons, reviews, games, and simulations opened and completed
• Answers given, scores, and time spent
• XP, levels, ranks, streaks, coins, stickers, badges, and other rewards
• Quests, commitments, and leaderboard standing

Friends and clubs

• Friend requests, friends lists, and club memberships
• Blocks and reports you make

Learners cannot send free-text messages to each other anywhere in Hagwow.

Purchases

• Which plan you hold, when it started, and when it renews or ends
• Purchase records from Apple, Google, or our web payment provider

We do not receive or store your full card number.

Device and technical information

• Device model, operating system, app version, language, and time zone
• IP address, which gives an approximate location such as country or city
• Crash reports and error logs
• Events that show how the app is used, such as which screens are opened
• An advertising identifier, on free accounts, where your device provides one

Website information

• Pages viewed, the link or ad that brought you to the site, and similar usage data, collected with cookies and pixels
• Your email address, if you ask us to notify you or contact us

Camera, microphone, and photos

Hagwow asks for these permissions only when a feature needs them.

• Microphone (spoken answers). In Mental Math and Spelling Bee, the learner can hold a button and say the answer. The audio is turned into text by the speech recognition service on your device, which is provided by Apple or Google and may process the audio on their servers. Hagwow receives only the resulting text. We do not store voice recordings.
• Camera and screen recording (Content Mode). Content Mode lets a learner record a video of themselves playing a game. The camera picture and the recording are made and kept on the device. They are not uploaded to Hagwow. The video leaves the device only if you choose to save or share it.
• Photos. If you tap Save, Hagwow adds the video to your photo library. Hagwow does not read your existing photos.

How we use information

• To provide lessons and save each learner's progress
• To show parents and guardians a report of their learner's activity
• To run leaderboards, friends, clubs, quests, and rewards
• To process subscriptions and unlock Premium features
• To send notifications you have allowed, such as streak reminders
• To find and fix crashes and errors
• To understand which parts of Hagwow work well and improve them
• To show ads on free accounts
• To keep Hagwow safe, prevent abuse, and review reports
• To carry out research on learning, using data with names, email addresses, and other direct identifiers removed
• To meet our legal obligations

What other users can see

On leaderboards, friend lists, clubs, and public profiles, other users can see a learner's nickname, avatar, country, XP, level, rank, streak, and earned badges. They cannot see email addresses, grade level, city, school, or lesson answers.

Advertising

Free accounts see ads provided by Google AdMob. We ask Google to serve non-personalised ads only. This means ads are chosen using context, such as the app being used and approximate location, and not a profile of the person's interests or past activity. Google may still use device identifiers and IP address to deliver ads, limit how often an ad is shown, and prevent fraud.

Premium accounts do not see ads.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with companies that help us run Hagwow, and only as needed for their service:

We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect the safety of a child or any other person, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

Where information is stored

Our service providers store and process information in countries that may be different from yours, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

How long we keep information

We keep account and learning data for as long as the account is open. When you delete an account, we delete or de-identify its personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep certain records, such as purchase records, to meet legal and tax requirements. Copies in backups are removed as those backups expire.

Your choices and rights

• See and correct. You can view and change profile details in the app.
• Delete. You can delete a learner or your whole account in the app, or ask us to at hagwow.com/delete-account.
• Notifications. You can turn notifications off in your device settings.
• Permissions. You can turn camera, microphone, and photo access off in your device settings. The features that need them will stop working; the rest of the app will not.
• Ads. You can limit ad tracking or reset your advertising identifier in your device settings.
• Website cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your information, to object to or restrict certain uses, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. In the Philippines, that is the National Privacy Commission. To use any of these rights, email privacy@hagwow.com. We reply within 30 days.

Security

We protect information with encryption in transit, access controls on our database, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
